Dr. Herminia Palacio, president and CEO of the Guttmacher Institute, a leading global reproductive rights research organization, will discuss the interlocking health and justice challenges that result from restricting abortion access, as well as lessons from countries that have recently established the right to abortion. In this timely episode, she and Hilary will explore how the Dobbs decision impacts different communities and the future of reproductive rights advocacy.

Dr. Herminia Palacio is the president and CEO of the Guttmacher Institute, a leading research and policy organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights around the world. She has dedicated her career to advancing health equity and has more than 25 years of experience across a broad range of sectors, including academic and clinical medicine, governmental public health, and philanthropy. Prior to joining the Guttmacher Institute, Dr. Palacio served as deputy mayor for health and human services for the city of New York. She also practiced clinical medicine for nearly 20 years.
Hilary Pennington is the executive vice president of the Ford Foundation, where she oversees all of Ford’s programs globally and works closely across programs and offices to ensure strategic, meaningful, and well-aligned global grantmaking. She also oversees the foundation’s BUILD and Global Fellowship programs and the Office of Strategy and Learning. From 2013-2017, she served as the foundation’s vice president for Education, Creativity, and Free Expression. Prior to joining Ford, Hilary led the Postsecondary Success strategy and U.S. Special Initiatives at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Generations Initiative. For 20 years, she led Jobs for the Future, a nationally recognized organization she co-founded that works to advance economic and educational opportunity.
